Marriage license Requirements
Getting married in The Bahamas is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Persons wishing to be married in The Bahamas must be in The Bahamas at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the intended marriage. An application must be made at the Registrar General’s Office located down town. The office is opened Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 4:30pm. It should be noted that marriage licenses can not be obtained on the weekends and public holidays. It is highly recommended that you contact us before coming to The Bahamas, to see if any public holidays will fall during your visit. Other requirements include picture I.D.’s, such as passports, drivers license, along with birth certificates, and a Bahamas Government Immigration entry card. If either party has been married before, a certified court issued copy of the Divorce Decree (with the court’s raised seal) must be presented.
If either party has never been married before, a sworn affidavit must be done here in The Bahamas before a notary stating the same. NO BLOOD TESTS ARE REQUIRED. Marriage license fee is $100.00, and must be paid to the Registrar General’s Office. No credit card, travelers check or personal checks are accepted. If a minor is being married, parental consent is required, and the forms can be picked up from the Registrar’s Office. After your wedding has been solemnized in accordance with the Marriage Act of The Bahamas, Chapter 106, Section 19 – Schedule G, you will be presented with two certified copies of the marriage certificates. All legal weddings done in The Bahamas are recognized worldwide.
